ABOUT US
CHURCH PROFILE
Macedonia Baptist Church is located in Ansonia, Connecticut, New Haven County. Ansonia, according to the most recent census, has a population of a little over 19,000 persons of which 77.6% are Caucasian, 16.7% Hispanic and 11.6% claiming African American Heritage. Ansonia has many churches of various denominations. It was formerly an industrial city, and was known as the "Copper City" because of the many manufacturing firms in the city. Presently, the local hospital is the largest employer within the Valley; however, a newly elected administration has revived economic development and is attracting new businesses. We are located within 20 minutes of larger cities within the state, that is Bridgeport, New Haven, and Waterbury. Also, New York City has an approximate drive time of 1.5 hours and is easily accessible by bus or train.
Macedonia Baptist Church has been in the same location for all 133 years of its existence. The building has undergone renovations/modifications with many more needed. We have had twelve Pastors, with the last Pastor installed June 12, 2016, and retired December 31, 2022. The longest pastorate has been 42 years. To its credit, Macedonia has never suffered a "split". The membership currently stands at approximately 120 souls, with an average Sunday attendance of approximately 65 souls. The majority of these persons are above the age of 50. However, of late many young families have been attending services. Therefore, with a strong evangelistic approach, there is the potential for growth. The activities of the church include: Church School every Thursday evening on the teleconference line, Bible Academy/Prayer Meeting on Wednesday evenings also on the teleconference line, and the Church provides New Member Classes. Other ministries include: Diaconate, Trustees, Finance, Floral, Missionary, Ushers-both Senior and Junior, Music Ministry including Men's Chorus, Voices of Praise, and Junior Voices of Praise, New Dawn Ministers, Hunger Awareness, Media, Visitation, and Gleener Committee. Other outreach ministries include: Clothes Closet, Monthly Sponsor of The Master's Table, Inc., Food Bank, and quarterly dinners for Senior Citizens. Also, we have ministries that stand ready to uplift those who are in need. It must be stated that Macedonia has always played a vital role in community affairs. It was one of the founding members of the Dr. King Bust Committee, which has since expanded to the MLK Unity in the Community Committee. One of our late pastors was the founder of the local branch of the NAACP. The church does not own a parsonage.
